In today's schedule-pressed workplace, a tech writer can't afford to waste
a moment. Fortunately, there's a plethora of tricks and a world of inexpensive
(and free!) tools to save you from repetitive tasks, help you find that document
that's "somewhere on my computer," improve your computer's performance, and
avoid downtime in the face of a computer crash.
In this presentation, Monique Semp demonstrates a variety of tools, tips, and
tricks to use when creating PDFs, indexes, diagrams, and more. Monique will
also discuss often-overlooked items to back up to ensure a smooth computer
crash recovery, and share tips to help you use your computer in the most
efficient way possible.
Monique Semp
A Senior STC member, Monique Semp has more than 15 years of documentation and
software experience. With a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech,
and an equal interest in writing, she began her software engineer writing PL/M
and C code for automated train control (the "people movers" in airports), and
the accompanying user manuals. Her later projects reflected evolving technology
and trends including object oriented programming, software process improvement,
and usability design and analysis.
During the dot.com mayhem, Monique came to the Bay Area. She worked in the
internet audio space where she increasingly focused on technical writing. One
more job switch, and she was an official API Writer, writing developer
documentation for Java-based wireless applications. Looking for greater project
variety, Monique began her own company, Write Quick, Inc. She provides an array
of technical writing services for her clients, including API References,
Programming Guides, Configuration Manuals, and technical processes and procedures.
(And yes, Monique recently experienced a computer crash, and learned a few
more things...)
