Basic Tips for Good Written Communication

The most precious commodity in today's enterprise is time. Whether you are a senior manager or professional with a specific skill, there is never enough time. We are all inundated with information we have act on, respond to, or organize. The ability to write clear, concise business English is a tool that is essential in this environment. It separates the average employee from the star. This presentation provides practical tips for good written communication on paper and online. In addition to basic writing techniques it includes:

  • How to organize data for ease of use
  • When and how to use graphics
  • When and how to put information online

Debra Elmore

Debra Elmore of Elmore Business Consulting has enjoyed being a freelance technical writer for 20 years. Some of her clients have included: Adobe, PG&E, Charles Schwab, AT&T, Sun, and Wells Fargo. Debra is experienced in preparing targeted documentation and advocating for a wide range of audiences, from non-technical end users to system administrators through management. Currently, Debra is specializing in business continuity plans and ITIL ITSM implementation at Chevron.
