White Papers In Your Future

New material, more usable information than before!

When you're ready to expand your document repertoire beyond just procedures and instructions, what kind of documents should you learn to compose?

Consider white papers! Managers use the information in white papers to make decisions, so writing white papers can make you more valuable to managers.

But what is a white paper? What characteristics distinguish them from other kinds of business documents? How can you be sure you're writing one? How can you use your knowledge of white papers to make yourself indispensable to managers?

Beau Cain offers both fresh and updated insights from ongoing research for his college course, Writing White Papers For Product Development and Sales. For instance, there are no longer ten kinds of white papers, which was the basis for his old presentation.

Cain explains what a white paper is, what it isn't, and how to get started writing one of 57 white paper possibilities. He'll show how he arrives at that odd number of documents, and explain why the factors for this number are a secret weapon for writing that crucial rough draft of a white paper that is appropriate for its purpose.

Beau Cain

Beau Cain is a technical communication consultant in Silicon Valley who also teaches part time at San Jose State University's Professional Development Center (PDC) and at San Jose City College's Institute for Business Performance (IBP).
