Entrepreneurship and Legal Concerns for Tech Writers

Jonathan Storper will discuss a variety of topics of interest to Tech Writers who are working as independent contractors (or contemplating doing so). Key topics will include:

  • The differences among various business structures, such as sole proprietorships, C corporations, and S corporations, and how to decide which structure is right for you.
  • IP concerns: who owns what you write; and how you can use your work, such as in your portfolio, entering STC competitions, etc.
  • Contracts: what to look for and what to avoid when you sign a contract.
  • Some nuts-and-bolts advice on how to get started as an independent contractor.
